BREAST LIFT SURGERY

Most women find that their breasts begin to sag and droop as they get older. A breast lift (mastopexy) is an operation to raise and re-shape your breasts.

Breast lift surgery

There are several different techniques that can be used to lift the breasts. It will depend on the degree of sagging as to which one is most suitable.

Breast lift surgery consists of removing excess skin from around the areola to tighten the skin that surrounds the breast. By tightening the skin in this way, the breast is "lifted", elevating the position of the nipple and areola.

If desired, a breast implant procedure can also be carried out at the same time to give additional breast shaping and smoothing of the skin.

You will normally be given a general anaethetic for the operation and may require an overnight hospital stay.

After the operation, you will have a bandage for a few days. You will need to wear a surgical bra for several weeks in order to support your breasts. Underwire bras should be avoided during this recovery period to prevent blistering of the post-operative tissue.

Common side-effects of breast lift surgery:

- pain
- bruising
- swelling
- nipple numbness

Most bruising, swelling, shooting pains & numbness typically subside within six weeks.

Possible complications of breast lift surgery:

- scarring
- breast infection
- persistent nipple numbness
- asymmetrical nipple position

How much does a breast lift cost?

Breast lift surgery typically costs about £4000.
