BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY

Breast enlargement surgery may be indicated in women who are not happy with the size or shape of their breasts. Breast enlargement is usually achieved by placing an artificial implant under the skin or muscle of the chest.

Breast implants are usually made from silicone and are designed to make your breasts larger, firmer and fuller.

What's involved?

Breast enlargement procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and requires an overnight hospital stay.

You will have a consultation with a breast surgeon prior to surgery to discuss the options available to you and to ensure that surgery is right for you.

The operation:

The breast surgeon will make a cut in your skin (usually in under the breast) to create a pocket under the skin or muscle of the chest. The breast implant is then inserted into this pocket & the wound closed with dissolvable stitches.

Pain & bruising is common after breast enlargement surgery, and usually lasts a few days.

What are possible complications?

Potential complications of breast enlargement include:

- a noticeable difference in breast size
- breast infection
- scar tissue around the implant pocket can cause firm, painful breasts.
- numbness around the nipple
- asymmetrical nipple position
